2023 GMC Terrain
The GMC Terrain is a luxurious small crossover SUV that has a “can do” attitude and the capabilities to match. It features an upscale and spacious cabin, a solid engine lineup, and an outstanding technology interface. This year it debuts a brand-new eBoost trailer braking feature to add control when you're hauling a load. With a refresh due in a couple of years, this year's model carries over the already refined suite of features you expect. Check out the power, performance, safety, and other features of the 2023 GMC Terrain.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
The 2023 GMC Terrain is available in four trim levels. The base trim is the SLE, the mid-level is the SLT, the off-road-oriented trim is the AT4, and the top-of-the-line trim is the Denali. Fans of the GMC brand will note that the trim levels are the same as most other GM vehicles. Colors include Summit White, Ebony Twilight Metallic, Sterling Metallic, Marine Metallic, Desert Sand Metallic, and Volcanic Red Tintcoat. Features include LED exterior lighting, and on the AT4 trim you get unique styling cues.
Engine (Power)
The new model of GMC Terrain has only a single powertrain. You'll get a turbocharged 1.4-liter inline four-cylinder engine that generates 175 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque. It's mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission and comes with standard front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is an option, except on the AT4 and Denali where it comes standard. When properly equipped, the Terrain is capable of towing up to 3,500 pounds of trailer, which is plenty to head out for a camping trip in the woods.
Performance
The 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine has plenty of power to get you where you need to go. You can expect athletic acceleration, and the transmission shifts smoothly. The brakes are authoritative, and the steering is confident, especially at highway speeds. When you drive this car, you'll get a sense of confidence and stability. It boasts low body roll on curves, and the overall ride is composed. The Terrain gets an EPA-estimated fuel economy of up to 24 miles per gallon in the city and 29 miles per gallon on the highway.
Interior
The cabin design is well-appointed and attractive with quality materials and a luxurious feel. There's plenty of room for drivers and passengers, and it's easy to enter and exit thanks to wide doors and low seat bolsters. The infotainment controls are intuitive and easy to use. The technology is superior, with features like an onboard Wi-Fi hotspot right from the base level. At the top level, you get perks like premium Bose audio, wireless device charging, and a head-up display.
Safety Features
The base safety features of the 2023 GMC Terrain include frontal crash warning and automatic emergency braking to protect against collisions. Lane-keeping assistance gently centers you to keep you from drifting. With the Denali trim, you get blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alerts for an extra set of eyes, front and back parking sensors, and a haptic feedback driver's seat for extra warnings when alerts occur. With the Black Diamond Edition package, you get semi-automated parking and a surround-view camera.
